A Cry From History

Herculaneum remained more intact than the more boisterous counterpart, Pompeii. Where the larger city was more or less flattened by the pumice that landed on it, a lot of Herculaneum’s buildings still have both of their floors and the poisonous gases and ash failed to remove as many of the murals. This one is one of the most poignant that I found on my trip there. The face almost looks as if it is screaming from beyond the grave about what happened to this beautiful village, as it was buried up to 20 metres deep.
