EUR was a new development to the south of Rome built under the Fascist regime in the 1940s. Its imperialist starkness is something to behold, and it is well worth a morning's trip away from the ruins of Rome's city centre.
The day I visited EUR was clear and sunny, which only went to highlight the regimented lines and arches of the crisp and foreboding structure of the Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro (or the 'Square Colosseum' as it is colloquially known).
